Temporal Trends in Skull Morphology of the European Bison from the 1950s to the Present Day

The shape and size of the skull are determined by various factors. These factors act not only on single individuals in their ontogenesis, but can affect entire populations long term, thus determining developmental trends. aim this study was to determine whether craniometric features European bison proportions constant or change over time. In total, 1097 skulls from Mammal Research Institute Polish Academy Sciences Warsaw University Life were examined. It has been shown that almost all examined dimensions tend decrease. opposite phenomenon observed for height males. results work prove adapt changing environmental conditions related climate warming, food availability, population density.
